07/02/2009 - 08/02/2009 -San Miguel de Allende. We arrived in San Miguel and set up camp. The next day we headed into downtown San Miguel to have a look at the sights, on the way we did pass a jewellry market - so of course I had to go in and I didn't disappoint the Big Fella I came out with a new bracelet and a set of earrings. I think I'm starting to enjoy this shopping business - much to Dave's dissapointment. We then headed into the Town Square area, where we visited a few of the sights including a Pink Church. San Miguel has a great feel about the whole town, it has been Americanised to some extent but not too much.
A few notes about our time in Mexico:
Our Likes:
- The people they were so polite, happy, respectful and helpful.
- The food was so fresh e.g. the beef, chicken, vegetables, fruit and seafood.
- The public transportation costs were so very cheap. The taxis were also extremely cheap an average Taxi fare costs us approx. AUD$2.50.
- The beer and the Margarita's were fantastic.
- The cost of living was so cheap.
- The people are very family orientated and family does come first.
- The scenery.
- Living in a completely different culture.
- The children never seem to argue and they always have a smile on their face.
Our Dislikes:
- The roads including the topes, the signage and the cost of the tolls.
- The Maps were all out of date.
- The Electrity was all over the shop.
- The Bugs (no seeums) on some of the beaches.
- And our lack of the Spanish language.
Observations:
- The taxi drivers cross themselves when they pass a church or a religious icon. They also have a plastic Jesus on the dash.
- The salespeople also cross themselves when they make their 1st sale of the day.
- The house leave rebar sticking out of the roof. That is so they can say the building is not finished and if it's not finished you pay cheaper taxes. The same aplies to painting your residence.
Overall we loved Mexico.
